I’m Alisha, a freelance content writer based in Manchester

My journey into content writing began with a love for ideas and a fascination with the internet. Writing online, sharing and exploring ideas in public is, as a writer, not just very satisfying, it also sharpens ideas, allows you to go deeper into subject areas, and it helps others.

Today, I use this skills to help sustainable businesses, nonprofits, and travel and lifestyle businesses publish content that educates, informs and inspires their readers. While I’ve specialised in some sectors, I’m open to working with anyone who needs to bring their digital channels to life with articles, blog posts, emails, or social media content.

    FAQ’s

Learn more about what a freelance content writer does, how to hire me, and what to expect when you work with me.

What is a freelance content writer?

A freelance content writer is a professional writer who works as an independent contractor and writes educational, or informational content for businesses, brands and nonprofits.

How is a content writer different from a copywriter?

Content writers inform and educate readers, while copywriters write to persuade or encourage an action. While a content writer focuses on unpacking and exploring a topic, a copywriter looks for opportunities to connect with a specific segment of an audience, in order to change their mind or ask them to take an action. Both writers might have the same goals, but the way they interact with their reader is different.

What are the benefits of hiring a freelance content writer?

When you hire a freelance content writer, you get to expand the capabilities of your business with specialised skills, which is especially useful if you don’t have the need or resources to hire and train a staff content writer.

I need a remote content writer, can you work with me remotely?

Yes, I have a process for working with remote clients that allows me to get all the information I need to write great content.

What’s the process for requesting your services?

After you get in touch, we’ll arrange a phone or video call to find out more about your project and whether I can help. I’ll ask some questions about the scope and timeline, along with your goals for the content, and send you a detailed quote. If you’re happy to go ahead, the work will begin. (FYI, I also offer ready-to-order content writing packages for newsletters, blogs, email, SEO, and more.)

Do you write SEO blog posts?

Yes, you can learn more about my SEO Content Packages here.

Do I need a freelance content writer or a copywriter?

This depends on the outcomes you want for your project. A copywriter will persuade your reader to take a specific action – like sign up for something, change their behaviour, or buy something. While a content writer will typically write long-form content to educate your reader, introduce them to new ideas, and get them interested in what you do. Copywriting is best for when you have an audience who needs persuading, moving, or directing, while a content writer will help you grow your audience.

    What are your rates?

This depends on the scope of the project—I’ll be able to give you a detailed quote once I understand what you need. I’ve also developed ready-to-order content packages for content types I write often.

What does a freelance content writer do?

A freelance content writer researches, plans, writes, and edits blogs, articles, emails, newsletters and social media content for businesses, brands, and nonprofits as an independent contractor.

Will a freelance content writer understand my work well enough to write about it?

Freelance content writers that are new to your subject matter will typically have a research process to help them understand your work and the conversation around it, before writing any content. When I start a long-term project with a new client, a familiarise myself with their business by doing a content audit, which helps me identify what’s working with their existing content, what people are interested in, and where there’s opportunities to talk about new ideas.

When should a business hire a freelance content writer?

A business should hire a freelance content writer when they need high-quality content written for their projects or campaigns. They’re helpful in situations when a business needs to expand its marketing or communications team for a limited amount of time – say, to launch and new product or to run a campaign. Freelance content writers are independent specialists who are responsible for their own training and development, so they are especially useful for businesses who don’t have the team or resources to train and guide in-house writers.
